The Applications of Gbest Optimized Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm in Adaptive Polarization Mode Dispersion Compensation

Abstract:

In this paper, a new type of hybrid particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is presented. The new algorithm is named as gbest optimization based particle swarm optimization algorithm (GOPSO). Comparing with the conventional PSO (CPSO) algorithm, GOPSO shows faster convergence to the global optima, less generation number needed to obtain an acceptable result, lower probability to lock into sub-optima, and easy implementation in the real-world applications. We use GOPSO as control algorithm to implement adaptive compensation system for polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in high-speed optical fiber communication system and the performance of GOPSO shows much better performance than that of CPSO.
